I wonder, O God, whether when the fully human Jesus was walking among us, he worried about the words he used in expressing your call for us to love you and one another as we do. There are times when I am afraid to speak out even though I know what some of our leaders are saying is against your Gospel while they may be proclaiming it is. I know that my stance against what many are doing and saying it is against your Gospel (and also against their current desires) may put me in an uncomfortable place. Help me during those times to speak for the Gospel and let them struggle when their decisions smack up against their personal agendas. Help me to recognize if, I too, am speaking or acting in a way that is against your call to walk in love. May we follow your call in response to those who act against your commandment to love one another as you loved us. Amen
