On this day in 1914, the Panama Canal was opened to ships.
We thank you, O God of all Creation, for giving us the wherewithal to attempt great things that will advance our world. So many people gave their lives to build some of the most important works. May we not forget the many people who worked so hard to make our lives better. Help us to celebrate as well those people who endure harsh environments and have dangerous jobs so that we can enjoy the things they provide or transport. May those who work the canals, ships, warfs be protected during those stormy times and feel your presence. Let us be grateful for all who do the work that many of us are unable, or unwilling to do so that we can live in comfort. Bless them now and always. Amen
