55 years ago my twin brother drowned in a backyard pool. It is a day that I remember, and also formed me.
O Lord our God, be with those who are mourning. Help those who are experiencing loss and struggling with how to move on. May they honor the memories of their loved ones and cherish the gift they were given by having them in their lives. May the pain of loss become something that is dull rather than sharp and one that moves them toward remembering the good things that made those people special. Help them to see that the gift of their time with them was far more important and formative than the loss. May they look to the time when they will be reunited. May your presence guide us through these challenging times. Amen
