Compline ends with a prayer that is repeated and it is I think one of the most powerful prayers in our prayer book.
Guide us waking, O Lord, and guard us sleeping, that awake we ma watch with Christ and asleep we may rest in peace. Too often, O God, we try to fix things on our own and don’t look to you for guidance. Help us when we are living our waking hours to seek your help so that when we are sleeping we may actually find rest. I know that when I have too much on my mind before sleep, my rest is never peaceful. So again, guide us waking, O Lord and guard us sleeping that we ma truly rest peacefully. Amen
