Prayer for March 19, 2021

I have been asked to pray for the Golf Outing for our School Today.

Hardy Greaves from “The Legend of Bagger Vance” about the game of Golf . “Ask anybody. It’s fun. It’s hard and you stand out there on that green, green grass, and it’s just you and the ball and there ain’t nobody to beat up on but yourself; just like Mister Newnan keeps hittin’ himself with the golf club every time he gets angry. He’s broken his toe three times on account of it. It’s the only game I know that you can call a penalty on yourself, if you’re honest, which most people are. There just ain’t no other game like it.”

Lord God, who gave us the idea that sport was a way for us to compete and have the chance to be honorable. Help us today as we go out to play what is perhaps the most frustrating and rewarding game you have helped us invent. Our school Mead Hall, has challenged our children to take chances, learn from failing, and be honorable in when we need to improve.  May our actions today follow that expectation.    Help us this day as we go out to support our school playing a game that reminds us that we need to be honorable and honest in how we live our lives.  May we give it our all in each thing we do today.  Let us fail miserably and in the next second succeed phenomenally.  For many of us, our life is like Golf.  It allows us to see each stroke/choice as an opportunity to act following your will.  Help us to know when those times arrive.  May we live the times of challenge feeling your presence and guidance. Amen

  2. Dear Father Grant, Didn’t think there could be a prayer about a school golf outing that would touch the hearts of those of us who have never played the game, but you did it. Wow! I love this prayer. Thank you! By the way, Cam really enjoyed visiting with you at Beer Bunch on Wednesday. Have a great weekend! Peggy
