On this day in 1961 the Berlin Wall began to be built.
Loving God, help us when we are divided. May we find ways to disagree without building walls that separate us from one another. May we value our relationships with each other so much that we find ways to express love for those with whom we struggle. May we seek ways to be in community and celebrate the things about us that are different. Give us the strength and patience enough to fully listen to people and the grace to treat them as beloved. May we tear down walls, both real and metaphorical, that keep us from expressing your love. All this we ask in your name. Amen.
