Prayer for September 17, 2021

O God who calls us to love our neighbor as ourselves, help us now more than ever to live into that commandment.  We are so angry at each other and selfish beyond anything we have seen before.  Let us quit using all the ways that our desire to have our own way and have it be replaced by a spirit of compassion and empathy.  May we care more about the people around us than some expectation of getting our own personal comfort be addressed. Perhaps the most horrible gift of social media is that we can say things we never would, or should, to people we actually love.  Let us learn better how to use this media that has given us freedom to hurt so fully. Allow us to become more about loving those around us than ourselves, online and in person.  Amen
