Prayer for January 5, 2023

We pray, O God, for our country’s House of Representatives and ourselves as a country. The divisions that have marked our country for a while have become so great that we have descended into a place we could not have imagined. May we look to the ideal of what a representative government can be and work toward it. We have become so fixed in our desire to make others come to our position that we cannot recognize when we have gone too far. May we find community, commonalities and concession to mould once again a government that represents in its actions the myriad desires and petitions of its people and not let a small group of people decide things that should be beyond their power to control. May your Spirit fill each of our representatives as they attempt to govern well. Amen
