“I invite you, therefore, in the name of the Church, to the observance of a holy Lent, by self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting and self-denial; and by reading and meditating on God’s holy Word.” (Book of Common Prayer p.265)
O Lord our God, help us as we begin this journey of Lent to find those things that bring us closer to you. May we be comfortable and honest in our self-examination, recognizing that you have made us in your image and want for us to live fully into our possibilities. Let us know that in repenting we become free from the guilt that weighs so heavily on us. May we learn to be more comfortable and regular in prayer to you. Let us find ways to give up those things we don’t really need so that we can see the many gifts you give us each day. May we take the time to read and study scripture to see how it guides us in our daily lives and reminds us of your desire to be in covenant with us. May we make this time Holy and Sacred as we walk this Lenten journey toward the celebration of your Resurrection. Amen.
